Flights cancelled at 17 airports as UK tourists affected - full list
Thousands of travelers are facing disruption after a surge in flight cancellations linked to the ongoing jet fuel crisis and wider instability affecting international aviation routes.
Airlines around the world have already canceled more than 13,000 flights this month, with UK passengers among those heavily impacted. More than 100 flights departing from or arriving in Britain have reportedly been scrapped in May alone, while additional cancellations are already scheduled for June.
Travelers flying to major international hubs, including Frankfurt Airport and Miami International Airport, have experienced some of the most significant disruptions. Aviation analysts say the number of cancellations could continue to rise as tensions in the Middle East put additional pressure on airlines and fuel supplies.
According to industry data reviewed by aviation experts, Frankfurt has seen the largest number of UK-related cancellations in recent days. Around 35 flights connected to the German hub were reportedly canceled over the course of a week, affecting thousands of passengers.
Other destinations experiencing disruption include Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Amman, and Abuja, as well as domestic impacts within the UK.
Industry analyst John Grant from aviation consultancy OAG said many of the cancellations involving Frankfurt and Munich are connected to operational challenges at Lufthansa. The airline has faced repeated strike action while also struggling with rising fuel prices, leading it to reduce thousands of short-haul European services during the summer season.
Grant also noted that routes to Abu Dhabi have been affected by regional security concerns, while Turkish Airlines has reportedly reduced some Istanbul services by combining flights.
